On March 13, 1994, a group of Shaggers who danced at Big Daddy's Bottom, Frogs and Websters before they closed formed the South Strand Shag Club (SSSC), with the Island Beach Club in Pawleys Island, SC as their home. On July 15, 1995 the South Strand Shag Club was voted into the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs (ACSC).
During the late 90's due to club closings the SSSC moved from the Island Beach Club to The Beverage Station in Garden City, SC, then back to their original Island Beach Club home, now called Mingo Moes and under new ownership. After Mingo Moes closed we moved to CB's in Murrells Inlet, SC and stayed there through August 10, 2001 when it was sold.
Our home is now at the VFW in Murrells Inlet, SC, where we meet and dance to the music of great shag DJs every Saturday night from 8:00 p.m. till 12:00 a.m. We love to have members of other shag clubs and visitors dance with us on Saturday nights. Our logo is "Come Shag With Us." We average about 300 members and we are still growing.
